Background
From 1999 to 2004, I was a Regional Marketing Manager focusing on Media & Press Relations prior to going into full-time tutoring. In my previous job, I have coached many foreign adult counterparts in Business (basic) English and Chinese Language. I was also responsible for corporate communication tasks, including translating English and Chinese Language press releases. I had also facilitated in many motivational courses during the course of my work.
Teaching Experience
My teaching style focuses on creative/critical thinking. In growing the child's learning skills, I use different techniques to cultivate the child interest instead of focusing on pure assessments.
From 1998- 2004 - Part time Tutor and In Enrichment Centre coaching
- English Level 1-12, Creative Writing, Phonics and Mind Mapping techniques
- Abacus Level 1-5
- Foundation Chinese to K1-P1
From 2004 onwards, I have been a full time tutor and parent volunteer in school.
I conduct group tuition for P1-4 English at a youth centre as a volunteer. In this capacity, I focus on building foundation and creative writing/thinking skills.
Past Students' Progress
The following are some of my special assignments:
- 2005 - Started to coach 3 Dyslexic Students. Before my coaching, the students had failed all subjects in primary school. With my help, these students have obtained passing grades, averaging 80% in their grades. The students have also moved up from Normal (Technical) stream to N(Academic) stream.
- 2008 - English to 2x Foreign Siblings. When they first came to Singapore 1 year ago, the children were placed in P3 & P4 due to weak English Language. They have now moved up the level to P4 & P6. Their education level in their country is equivalent to P5 & Sec 1.
- 2009 - Foundation Chinese to P2 Foreign Student. When we first started, the child is only able to read with the help of English translation or Han Yu Pin Yin. The child is also unable to recognise or write Chinese characters. 2 months after under my supervision, the child is able to read without any assistance of Han Yu Pin Yin and is able to write basic Chinese characters.
My current local students include the following:
- 2x Sec 3 English/Literature - Focusing on Creative Writing/Critical Thinking.
- 2x Sec 1 English/Maths/Science (Focus English).
- 3x P6 English/Maths/Science (Grade from 65% to ave 80%).
- 1x P5 EnglishMathsScience (English fr 60 to ave 75; Overall grade 85%).
- P2-4 English/Maths/Science.
Qualifications
- Degree in Commence(Management).
- Advance Diploma in Business Administration.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- Foundation in Dyslexic Studies.
