Patience, is the word. Other than patience, it is still patience – An important factor and character that is essential for being a private tutor, especially in Singapore. Kids are already having tough time to cope and catch up with tons of homework and stress from the school, never will it be easy for them to face another round of bombardment after school hours.

In my opinion, a patient tutor must be able to build up the confidence level of a child who has certain difficulties in adapting to the competition in school. And I believe that’s what most parents are looking for. Naturally, when a child’s confidence level is given a booster, he will have a different perspective and views towards his learning path.

And Chee Yong is the ONE! I can see the drive and enthusiasm in my son now, right after the first Science lesson he had with Chee Yong. The interactive and different approach in teaching by Chee Yong is effective and helpful. My son is even spotted reading Science notes on the bed nowadays! May not be very good for his eyes, though. He has since look upon Chee Yong as a role to follow!

And through EH Tutor’s recommendation of an English tutor, my son has regained the confidence in his English Language again which was shuttered by his previous tutor. He even mentioned to me that this English tutor is the only one who praised him of his composition writing, and he will do his best strive for better results!

In the past, I engaged tutors for my daughters based on recommendations from friends. I trusted their recommendations without checking. It was purely based on trust. The results were mixed, some did well, some did not. My daughter, who is in Sec 4 now, also tried getting a tutor from the internet forums. It did not go well after the second lesson. When I met Mr Lee from Education Haven through my friend's recommendation, he was very helpful and quickly found a teacher from a reputable school to teach my daughter Chemistry. Unfortunately she fell ill and could not teach my daughter. Mr Lee quickly found another Chemistry teacher for me within the next day. He emailed to me her credentials and her qualifications which impressed me greatly. Immediately I agree to let this teacher teach my daughter.

When Agnes Mok, the Chemistry teacher arrived at my house at 7.15pm, 15 minutes earlier than the appointed time, she was very humble and courteous. She introduced herself well and showed me the confirmation letter from Education Haven. Next she did something that no tutors have ever done to me... She showed me her 9 straight As' O Level Certificate and her NUS degree. I was very impressed and immediately my confidence in her soared many levels up. As she was an ex teacher and ex Head of Department (Science) in a Secondary school, I was certainly reassured in her standard of teaching.

After one and a half hour teaching my daughter, my daughter had a better grasp of the subject and was more confident. She was also given an assignment to strengthen her understanding of Chemistry. Agnes Mok gave me a quick update of my daughter's present level of competence and she was confident that she can help my daughter achieve very good grades in her coming Prelims on 22 Aug 2009.

The next day, Mr Lee called me to check how Agnes performed. Of course, I gave a good appraisal to him.
